John Robert “Johnny” Cosley, 72, of Long Beach, California, died on Monday, Jun 7, 2021. He had suffered for many years with mental health issues and complications from diabetes.


Johnny was born Jun 4, 1949, in Long Beach to Harry and Loretta (Goetz) Cosley. He and his twin brother, James “Jimmy” attended schools in Long Beach. As young children, the Cosley twins loved coloring books. Since their father was a mechanic, it was only natural that they also collected Matchbox toy cars. For many years, he enjoyed riding dirt bikes. Johnny was especially bright in math and was often known to help out classmates by doing their homework. In 1968, he graduated from David Star Jordan High School in Long Beach. From 1969-1971, he served in the U.S. Army. In 1970, after being based in White Sands, NM, he went to Vietnam where he worked as an office clerk. After his army service, he was employed as a deburrer (inspector of metal components to ensure parts fit properly) at John Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach. He later worked as a delivery driver for a local lumber company.


On Jun 22, 1991, he married Annette Aidezek in Long Beach. During their marriage they lived in Wisconsin as well as California; they later divorced.


Johnny is survived by his brother, Louie of Long Beach. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Jimmy (1985), his father Harry (1985) and his mother Loretta (2012).
