Helen “Mimi” Sopocko
1928 - 2022
| Mimi was 94 years young when she passed on 09/25/2022. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia O’Connor, grandchildren Matthew O’Connor and Carrie O’Connor, and great-grandchildren Connor Tucholski, Jacob O’Connor, Jordan Thompson, and Tatevik Kirakosian.
Mimi was one of the most kind and loving people. She was still very active at 94 participating in an online Zoom exercise class 3 times a week and she was still driving. Mimi’s motto was “Live well, laugh often, love much,” and she did that every day. She had a long, adventurous life and she had the privilege to travel to exotic places during that life. She had a great sense of humor and loved to cut out comics from the LA Times that she thought were funny and send them to the person that they made her think of. She loved her family fiercely. She was very proud of the accomplishments of her family members. She also loved her friends and she was a surrogate grandmother to many. She also had a sweet tooth; two pieces of Sees Candy at night...and sometimes one during the day too, if it was calling out to her. Mimi was an angel on earth. She never had an unkind word for anyone.
Mimi will be laid to rest with her husband, Phillip Sopocko, at Riverside National Cemetery on Wednesday, 10/26/2022 at 11am.
Mimi and her husband had a heart for the military and she served on the Making Spirits Bright Committee for the Diamond Bar Women’s Club, making sure that military families had presents under their trees at Christmas. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in her name to Wounded Warriors.
