William Niles Loveland
1949 -2023
| William (Bill) was the first child of Naval Captain William Loveland and Olive Loveland. Bill’s childhood was filled with travel and adventure as Captain Loveland’s military duty brought the family to Anchorage, Alaska; Monterrey, Mexico and Monterey, California. A heart condition forced his father to retire early and they settled in Columbus, Ohio. Six years later his sister Victoria was born. In 1961, William died when Bill was just 12 year old. His mother Olive moved the two children to San Diego, California where they all fell in love with the ocean.
Bill graduated from San Diego State University with a BA in history. Later he would teach that, and other subjects, to middle school students. He was always a seeker and his path led him to a metaphysical spiritual community in Long Beach, California where he devoted his time to spiritual studies and his talents to the meditation garden, creating astrological charts and sharing his abundant love and laughter with his community. Above all, he loved the ocean and was a life-long surfer. On April 3rd he rode the perfect wave into the spiritual realm.
Bill is survived by his wife of 27 years, Penny Loveland, his sister Victoria Loveland-Coen, half-sister Mariann Loveland, and nieces Olivia and Juliet Coen. All will miss him terribly.
