LIFE TRIBUTE – Bacardi Stewart Kirkpatrick

Bacardi Stewart Kirkpatrick

1954-2024

Bacardi Stewart Kirkpatrick was born March 21,1954, in Long Beach, California to his parents Ossie Mae Kirkpatrick and Edwin Stewart.

In 1955, Ossie relocated to Charleston, South Carolina, with Louis Murray, Bacardi and her three-month-old daughter, Tara.

Bacardi was raised and attended schools in both Long Beach and the community of Liberty Hill in Charleston, South Carolina. During his elementary and junior high school years Barcardi would visit his grandparents, Henry and Estelle Kirkpatrick, in Long Beach, California. They played a very important role in his life during these early years. Bacardi attended church regularly, with “Mama Stelle” on Sundays, and during the week for other services and activities. During this time Bacardi gave his life to the Lord.

From birth, Barcardi was an active child with a creative imagination and a “gift for gab.” He was always talking, which did not go over well in structured environments such as, school, church or later in life on a job. As a result of these traits, Barcardi always aspired to be an entrepreneur. He had lots of ideas and pursued several different business ventures.

In 1975, he married Phyllis Roach. To their union was born a daughter, Khaliah Kirkpatrick.

Because of the uniqueness of his first name, his gregarious nature and the Kirkpatrick family name, Bacardi was well known around the Long Beach area. Throughout his life, Bacardi maintained an interesting relationship with the truth. He was easily remembered, and not quickly forgotten because of this. His determination, drive, energy and passion for living life to the fullest were his trademarks.

Bacardi’s later years left him requiring assistance in his day-to-day living due to a debilitating illness. Over the years he has been assisted by his cousin Tommie Kirkpatrick, Jr., nephew Trent Davis, and most recently, his nephew, Maurice Murray. His life was extended due to their attentive care.

On March 27, 2024, just six days after reaching his 70th birthday, Bacardi was called to his eternal rest.

Leaving to cherish his memories are his two daughters; Khaliah, Mya, and his only son J.R.; his beloved mother, Ossie Mae Murray; two sisters, Dorothy Jean Davis and Tara Galloway, five brothers; Louis Murray, Kevin Murray, Rodrick Murray, Vernont Murray, Quentin Murray; Aunt Gale Kirkpatrick, Uncle Larry Clark, and Auntie Jackie, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a few friends.
