Glenda Louise Walls

1924-2019

Glenda Louise Walls, loving mother of four children, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother passed away in her home on Wednesday, December 25, 2019 on Christmas morning at the age of 95.

She was born on April 9, 1924 in Eugene, Oregon. When she was four, her family moved to Long Beach, CA until the earthquake of 1933 when their home was knocked off its foundation. The family moved to a home in Signal Hill where she attended Poly High School.

In 1942 she married Owen Walls who served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. In 1945 they purchased a home in Lakewood Village and opened the Lakewood Plumbing Co. A decade later they purchased their residence on Monlaco Rd. in the Long Beach Plaza and remained until their deaths.

Glenda was active and volunteered in many organizations and community service positions serving as President of the Bancroft Jr. High PTA, an Auxiliary of the City of Long Beach, an Auxiliary of the State Plumbing Contractors Associations, President of the Professional Writers League of Long Beach, four terms as President of the Long Beach Emblem Club #106 with other positions held including; Press Correspondence Secretary, Jr. Past President, and other chair positions for charity events.

Glenda’s love of writing lead to articles published in the Long Beach Press Telegram. She wrote mainly about her travels, and her family. They were touching, funny and informative; sometimes all three. Glenda had unlimited energy. She was writing a novel up to the time she became blind. She flew all over the world, cruised to Alaska, Caribbean, Hawaiian Islands, Fiji, Australia and the Mediterranean.

Nothing pleased Glenda more than a party. And so, on Christmas Eve, after a party for 28 family members, all guests left the house, and so did she. I believe she went to join her husband Owen on another grand adventure.

Glenda is survived by her four children Jim and daughter-in-law Judy, her daughter Joan, her daughter Margie and son-in-law Milton Edwards, her son Terry and daughter-in-law Linda. She is also survived by her sister Arvetta Sayer, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA 92518, at which time Glenda will be interred with her beloved husband Owen Walls (died March 19, 2011) who will receive military honors for his services in the U.S. Coast Guard.
